Can someone please enlighten an ignorant Brit on why people are commenting about leftists and Democrats in response to a screenshot of a somewhat lame joke about 40k?
The user who tweeted the take is a political commentator, or maybe influencer would be a better term. There’s a Wikipedia page about her that explains it better than I can.
Basically she rose to fame as an anti-feminist during Gamergate, but kinda also seems to have progressive views on some other topics which have given her a weird platform because basically no matter what side of the political spectrum they’re on there’s something for anyone to agree with her on, and something they’d want to cancel her over.
The OP in the Tweet, Sh0eOnHead (https://www.youtube.com/user/Shoe0nHead), is a Youtuber who claims to be leftist but spends half her time dismantling leftist talking points. It makes a lot of people very polarized about her.

Nothing more that I despise than people who choose a side of an argument just because it’s “their side”. Have a back bone. It’s okay to switch sides on certain subjects. Being an extremist is being a moron.
“I’m a democrat/liberal, but…” is a tried and true method of conservative dismantling liberal talking points. Sure, as liberals we are far more openly critical of our leadership than conservatives are of theirs, and we regularly voice those concerns. But that isn’t our entire discourse, and we just as openly support liberal policy and leadership where it’s deserved. If someone’s entire schtick revolves around criticizing democrats or liberal policy without supporting good policy or people, they’re not liberal. They’re just a waste of time.

Leftist? Her most recent video is her shitting on women as a whole group and straw-manning “dating strategies” as a way to drive more chauvinistic engagement. And the “its just a joke bro” defense is so hackneyed im surprised to hear anyone trot it out in good faith.

She has come out as pro LGBT, anti trans then pro trans, anti BLM and Pro BLM, pro gamergate, anti feminist then anti-anti feminist, pro Bernie, anti Trump but then Trump apologist. She was heavily involved in the right wing “rational skeptics” Youtube scene that was the forefather of todays alt right pipeline. She had a memorable episode listed in the wiki with one of them where she agreed with admitted pedophile milo yinnepolois that Leslie jones “looked like an ape,” a very common racist trope that got the above pedophile banned from old twitter.
That sounds like a right winger chasing trends and public opinion, ala Grimes, not someone “socially conservative.” Someome playing all sides, or at least trying to.
Anyway about it, it’s someone who says they are a “social democrat” while repeating tons of alt right rhetoric. At best, shes very, very confused. At the worst, she just says what keeps making her money from conservatives.
