I want to switch from Proton and am looking at Mailbox.org. (This is probably not exclusive to Mailbox.org.) Alias are limited with Mailbox.org, which I’m not a fan of. But extensions can be used as well. Although they don’t seem as anonymous as aliases? Can someone give their perspective on this?
They’re not. Lets say your name is Dave Smith and you join mailbox with the username/address [email protected]
If you wanted to join (I dunno) a mastodon instance but wanted to easily identify it and were also happy for the Admin to know your actual email you could use
davesmith+mastodon@mailbox.org
- that’s an extension. But if you didn’t want the Admin to know your email you could create an Alias in mailbox so for example
mymastoacct@mailbox.org
- as long as no one else was already using it of course. So if your actual primary address includes your name, an extension will always reveal it, whereas an alias can hide it.
Hi, I’m using mailbox.org since several years, for two familly accounts and business.
They got temprorary anonymous e-Mails which will expire every n month or so, unless you navigate in the menu and extend the period every n month.
Mailbox.org is nice. My only complain is that every time I log in I end up in their portal rather than the email inbox. Is there any way to change this?
Actually you can modify this in the basic settings.
Found it!
Damn, I’ll need to have another look. Those settings can be a bit difficult to navigate
