Berlin’s immigration authorities are moving to deport four young foreign residents on allegations related to participation in protests against Israel’s war on Gaza, an unprecedented move that raises serious concerns over civil liberties in Germany.
The deportation orders, issued under German migration law, were made amid political pressure and over internal objections from the head of the state of Berlin’s immigration agency.
The internal strife arose because three of those targeted for deportation are citizens of European Union member states who normally enjoy freedom of movement between E.U. countries. None of the four has been convicted of any crimes.
Habe dazu leider keinen deutschsprachigen Artikel gefunden. @mods, sagt Bescheid wenn ihr das lieber in c/nahost haben wollt, aber das geht mMn weit über den Nahostkonflikt hinaus.
I get that the headline is a bit pretentious, but before you downvote this post, note how fucked up the whole matter actually is. There are people trying to deport some guys without any solid legal basis. This is exactly what’s happening.
On that note, I strongly discourage comparing people to Trump or groups to his government. They move the bar on a daily basis. It hardly matters who you compare them to, you will almost certainly find something the Trumpists did that is arguably worse.
In doing so, you open the door for whataboutism and help shift the discussion to the right. They are no standard you should hold anyone to. They are such a bad example in any way imaginable, that they make almost anyone look good in comparison.
